Remove unauthorised billboards by June 2 or face court – NRSA to Assemblies

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has issued a warning.

Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Greater Accra must act.

They must remove unauthorized billboards from road medians by June 2, 2025.

Failure to comply may lead to legal action against them.

This warning follows a failed meeting with the assemblies.

Many assembly members did not attend the scheduled discussion.

NRSA Director-General Abraham Amaliba expressed disappointment at their absence.

He noted that some members misunderstood the invitation from the Local Government Ministry.

They thought it was for all assemblies nationwide, leading some to come from outside Accra.

However, those in Accra who were required to attend did not show up.

Amaliba stated that their absence is seen as deliberate noncompliance.

The NRSA will proceed to sue those assemblies ignoring the directive.

Initially, they had given a 21-day deadline for billboard removal.

They planned to offer an extension during the meeting.

Now, due to the absences, they feel legal action is necessary.

Amaliba emphasized that public safety is at risk from these unauthorized structures.
