A resurfaced video of former presidential aide Reno Omokri has sparked controversy. In it, he compares President Bola Tinubu to convicted fraudster Hushpuppi. Omokri criticized what he sees as hypocrisy in Nigeria’s politics.
“If you condemn Hushpuppi but not Bola Tinubu, you’re a hypocrite,” he said. He referenced footage of bullion vans entering Tinubu’s home before the 2023 election. He questioned where the money in those vans came from.
Omokri believes Tinubu should have faced investigation like Hushpuppi did in the UAE. Instead, he claims, “what we see is Tinubu acting like a cowboy.”
He also mentioned Senator Oluremi Tinubu's controversial statement during the elections: “Igbos, we don’t trust you again.” He connected this remark to violence in Lagos against Igbo voters.
“Is there no connection between the bullion van, Remi Tinubu’s statement, and the violence?” Omokri asked.
He further criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He alleged that corruption is rampant within the party. He cited former Kano governor Umar Ganduje, who was filmed allegedly accepting bribes. Ganduje was later appointed to lead the Edo State APC Election Committee.
