Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has voiced strong opposition to the nomination of Professor Richard Frimpong Oppong, a dual citizen, for a Supreme Court position.

Dr. Forson argues that dual citizenship disqualifies Prof. Oppong based on Article 156(1) of Ghana’s Constitution, which requires judges to pledge allegiance to Ghana. He insists Prof. Oppong must renounce his foreign citizenship to qualify.

This stance contrasts with the recent Supreme Court ruling that permits dual citizens to hold high-ranking positions, including Supreme Court judges, following the nullification of restrictive sections in the Citizenship Act.
