“I take my promises seriously. My word is my bond,” President John Mahama said in a national address on Wednesday night. He reviewed his first 120 days back in office.
He spoke with confidence, stating he had heard the cries of Ghanaians. He also mentioned that he responded with swift action.
“We laid out a social contract with you, the people of Ghana,” he said. “Tonight, I report that we have fulfilled these promises.”
President Mahama highlighted efforts like restructuring government and fighting illegal mining. He emphasized that his administration was focused on serious business, not ceremonies.
“These actions are not merely checkboxes,” he stressed. They represent a shift in government operations—emphasizing transparency, accountability, and urgency for every Ghanaian's well-being.
He pointed to achievements such as forming a lean government and enforcing a strict code of conduct for public officials. He also mentioned removing burdensome taxes that affected individuals and businesses.
Additionally, he discussed investigations into past wrongdoings and reclaiming forest reserves from illegal miners.
“We have launched major job creation programs,” he noted. “We streamlined scholarships and supported vulnerable populations while holding security agencies accountable.”
In his address, President Mahama aimed to inspire hope and unity. He acknowledged the long road ahead but insisted the groundwork was solid.
“Although we have established a foundation in these first 120 days, much work remains,” he stated about realizing Ghana’s potential.
He called for national unity and collective ownership of the rebuilding process. “This journey requires everyone’s effort,” he said.
“I am grateful for your mandate,” President Mahama continued. “Your trust is our most valued asset; we will work tirelessly to deserve it.”
His speech concluded with a passionate call to action: “Let us work together, united by purpose and vision.” Together, they can overcome challenges and build a brighter future for Ghana.
