Residents raise alarm over GWL chlorine spillage in Ashaiman

Residents in parts of Ashaiman are worried about chlorine exposure. They believe it comes from the Central Ghana Water Company warehouse nearby.

In communities like Bethlehem and Golf City, the problem was worst on Friday night. Between 7:00 p.m. and midnight, many reported breathing difficulties. Some even suffered asthma attacks due to the strong chemical smell.

Eric Sonny, an eyewitness, spoke to Citi FM about the situation. He said that by Saturday morning, air quality had improved significantly.

He described a chlorine spillage at the Ghana Water Limited office in Ashaiman. This spillage has polluted the environment and made breathing difficult for residents.

People with asthma are particularly affected and are having attacks. "You can’t stay in your room," he said. He urged authorities to address the issue quickly, as residents struggle to breathe due to a burning sensation in their throats.
