Resource GNFS instead of ordering their dismissal - Ntim-Fordjour to Ashanti Regional Minister

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, criticized the Ashanti Regional Minister. He disagreed with the Minister's call to dismiss officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). Fordjour believes these officers should be supported, not victimized.

He described the Minister's actions as unfair and demoralizing. Firefighters risk their lives daily to protect people and property.

On March 26, Fordjour posted on X urging politicians to show humility. He emphasized that personal interests should not undermine public servants' morale.

He stated, “Egoistic whims and caprices of a populist Regional Minister cannot be allowed to demoralize our gallant Fire Officers.” These officers work hard every day to extinguish fires in the country.

Fordjour insisted that no further disciplinary action should be taken against affected officers. He said, “Whatever happened, let’s move on! This letter should settle it all.”

He declared that no officer should face unfair termination or demotion due to a politician's ego. Instead, politicians should support and resource firefighters in their duties.

Additionally, Rev. Ntim Fordjour highlighted the chronic underfunding of the GNFS. He stressed that authorities should prioritize equipping firefighters rather than demanding dismissals.

“Ghana National Fire Service is woefully underfunded and misunderstood,” he noted. He called for increased support so the service can perform its crucial role effectively.
