Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has called on school authorities nationwide to uphold students’ right to freely practice their religious beliefs.
Speaking during Eid-ul-Fitr prayers with the Ambariyya Muslim sect in Tamale, he emphasized that every Ghanaian child is entitled to constitutional rights and freedoms, including religious expression.
His comments follow concerns raised by the Ghana Muslim Students Association, which criticized Saint Roses Senior High School in Akwatia for preventing Muslim students from leaving for Eid celebrations despite a Ghana Education Service directive.
The minister’s remarks reinforce the need for inclusivity in schools, ensuring that all students can observe their religious obligations without unnecessary restrictions.
