Restore discipline in Senior High Schools – Education Minister to GES

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has taken action. He instructed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to restore discipline in senior high schools.

Iddrisu expressed concerns about a troubling breakdown of discipline in schools. He spoke to school heads during a meeting in Sunyani, Bono Region. A recent shooting at SDA Senior High School in Kumasi highlighted this issue.

He described the incident as “leaves much to be desired.” The Minister called for urgent reforms to address indiscipline.

Iddrisu emphasized that GES Director-General, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, has government support. This backing is for implementing reforms against violent behavior and restoring discipline.

“He has our full policy support,” Iddrisu stated. He urged stronger inspections to prevent weapons in schools.

Meanwhile, the family of 16-year-old Suzi Adwoa Penamang is seeking help. She was shot by a classmate and may go blind from her injuries. Her mother is pleading for financial assistance to save her daughter’s sight.
