Retired Commissioner of Police (COP) George Alex Mensah has asserted that Dr. George Akuffo Dampare’s career in the Ghana Police Service has effectively ended following his removal as Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Speaking on Adom FM, COP Mensah explained that once an IGP is removed, there is no further role for them in the Service unless reassigned by the government. He dismissed Dampare’s tenure as unimpressive, stating, *"If there is someone to focus on, it is the new IGP, not him. He is in the past. He did nothing."*
Mensah also noted reports of jubilation among some police officers, suggesting that Dampare’s removal was welcomed by many within the force.
His comments follow President John Mahama’s appointment of COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new IGP, with his swearing-in scheduled for today, March 14, 2025.
