Return stolen artefacts and cultural treasures that rightfully belong to our heritage - Mahama to colonial rulers

President John Mahama has urged the international community to tackle injustices in Africa. He highlighted issues like unsustainable debt and the looting of cultural artefacts. He also mentioned the marginalisation of African history in global education.

In his Africa Day 2025 message, Mahama pointed out that Africa's economic challenges come from centuries of exploitation. He noted that unfair global trade practices have worsened these issues.

“Addressing the crippling debt burden is essential,” he said. This debt stifles economic growth in many African nations.

Mahama called for the return of African artefacts taken during colonial rule. These treasures are still held in Western museums and institutions.

He emphasized that exploitation and unfair trade practices have lasting effects. Providing resources and expertise can help empower African nations for sustainable development.

Mahama stressed the importance of meaningful debt relief and resource allocation. Technical expertise is also needed to support African nations in their development efforts.
