Rev Ntim Fordjour is not the problem, government's reaction is- Baffour Awuah

Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah is the MP for Manhyia South. He is also a member of the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee. Recently, he addressed the standoff between Rev Ntim Fordjour and the government.

On JoyNews Desk, Mr. Awuah clarified that the issue is not Rev Fordjour’s actions. Instead, it concerns the government's response to his calls for transparency.

He emphasized that Rev Fordjour did not intend to accuse anyone. His goal was to seek clarification on important matters.

"Rev Ntim Fordjour is not the problem," Mr. Awuah stated. "He only demanded answers; he never accused the government."

Mr. Awuah noted that Rev Fordjour raised concerns about inconsistent government responses. These responses were to legitimate questions from the Minority.

He explained that Rev Fordjour's press conference aimed for clarity, not accusations. "The press conference was to seek clarity," he said.

Despite this reasonable approach, government responses were inconsistent. This inconsistency led to frustration and confusion among many.

Mr. Awuah questioned whether it was appropriate to make everything public. He highlighted responsible management as crucial, especially regarding national security issues.

While acknowledging some initial cooperation from the government, he expressed disappointment at later dismissals by spokespersons.

"The government showed some initial intention to cooperate," he said. However, dismissing the issue raised questions about their sincerity.

Mr. Awuah criticized the government's lack of cooperation and interest in resolving matters. "Those who should care have acted in bad faith," he remarked.

He suggested that failure to engage worsened the situation further.

The Minority hoped to address these issues through the Parliamentary Select Committee on Interior and Defence. Mr. Awuah described this committee as a trusted forum for sensitive matters.

"These matters need careful handling in a secure forum," he added.

In defense of Rev Fordjour’s cautious approach, Mr. Awuah cited his experience in government and security issues.

"Rev Fordjour has been a Minister of State before," he noted. "He understands how to handle sensitive matters carefully."

Ultimately, Mr. Awuah stressed that the problem lies with the government's failure to engage responsibly with concerns raised by Rev Fordjour.

"Rev Ntim Fordjour is just being cautious," he concluded. "He acts in national security's best interest."
