A heated debate occurred on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme. This followed allegations made by Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South. He claimed two aircraft were linked to drug trafficking and money laundering.
Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the NDC, demanded Rev. Fordjour's arrest. He insisted that the MP must prove his claims or face legal action.
Gyamfi argued that serious allegations against a government would not go unpunished elsewhere. He stated, “In other jurisdictions, he would have been blacklisted.”
He emphasized that if Rev. Fordjour ignores a National Security invitation, he should be arrested. Gyamfi said the MP cannot hide behind parliamentary privileges.
“If he doesn’t honour the invitation,” Gyamfi warned, “he will be arrested.” He insisted that evidence must be provided to support the claims.
Rev. Fordjour responded defiantly to Gyamfi’s demands. "Sammy, I dare you to call them to come and arrest me right here in the show," he said.
This exchange follows calls from the Minority for transparency from National Security. They raised concerns about an air ambulance and a private jet that stayed in Ghana before departing for Gran Canaria.
Rev. Fordjour claimed intelligence suggested these aircraft might have transported illegal substances and large amounts of cash.
Government officials dismissed these allegations as baseless. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State for Government Communications, accused Rev. Fordjour of spreading unverified disinformation.
