Dr. Bright Atsu Sogbey, President of the Africa Development Council (ADC), has called for a revamp of the Mathematics syllabus in basic schools to enhance its practical application in daily life.
Speaking at ADC’s Executive Council Meeting in Accra, he emphasized that teaching should focus on problem-solving to spark student interest.
Dr. Sogbey criticized Ghana’s education system, linking its failures to economic instability.
He warned against extending school hours as a solution, advocating instead for well-resourced schools and motivated teachers. He urged the government to allocate at least 1% of GDP to Science, Technology, and Mathematics.
ADC leaders also highlighted the need for industrial development, with Executive Council Chairman Dr. Prince Kofi Kludjeson calling for banking reforms to reduce reliance on IMF bailouts.
