Revealed – Adenta Kumia charged with publication of fake news

Alfred Ababbio Kumi, a known NPP member, has been arrested by NIB. He petitioned President John Mahama to dissolve the committee investigating Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo. Kumi is now charged with publishing fake news.

Clement Opoku Gyamfi, Kumi's lawyer, explained the charges. He said they relate to an interview and a post on X. They also involve a petition Kumi wrote to the President. Gyamfi mentioned that Kumi was cautioned before being charged.

Gyamfi believes the process is nearing completion. He stated that after interrogation, charges are pressed. The next step may be court proceedings, but they have applied for bail.

Kumi's petition claimed committee members undermine the inquiry's integrity. He alleged a meeting occurred between Justices Gabriel Pwamang and Samuel Adibu-Asiedu and Thaddeus Sory on May 15 at Santoku Restaurant. Supreme Court Justice Yonni Kulendi was also present.

Kumi accused them of discussing matters related to the petition during this meeting. His petition stated that this meeting damaged public confidence in the inquiry process.

He noted that Justice Pwamang seeks to become Chief Justice after Mahama’s election. Kumi also mentioned Justice Adibu-Asiedu lobbied for the same position after Justice Anin Yeboah left.

Kumi called the entire process a potential sham and urged action from President Mahama to protect its credibility. In response, Thaddeus Sory denied any such meeting took place on Facebook.

Sory described Kumi's claims as "a monstrous lie" and easy to fact-check. A video surfaced showing Sory dining with former Council of State member Kotei Dzani at Santoku Restaurant.

In this video, Justice Asiedu did not notice Sory until alerted by Justice Kulendi. After brief conversation, they continued their separate activities without discussing the petition.

The video confirms that committee chair Justice Pwamang was not present at the restaurant as claimed by Kumi.
