Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, stated that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has not provided a medical report.
Since January 24, Mr. Ofori-Atta has failed to submit any documentation. On June 2, Agyebeng told the media about this issue. He noted that Ofori-Atta mentioned needing surgery in March but did not update the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on his condition.
Agyebeng criticized a letter from Ofori-Atta's lawyers dated May 28. He described it as showing bad faith and suggested Ofori-Atta does not intend to return voluntarily for questioning.
The Special Prosecutor rejected Ofori-Atta's request for a virtual meeting. Agyebeng insisted that he must appear in person at the OSP office. He emphasized that they have always required his attendance and will not waive this requirement.
Agyebeng explained that if they were willing to take statements remotely, they would have done so earlier. He stressed that suspects cannot dictate how investigations are conducted.
Additionally, Agyebeng announced he initiated an INTERPOL red notice process for Ofori-Atta. This could lead to international arrest and extradition.
He mentioned this action occurred shortly before his media briefing. The OSP has accused Ofori-Atta of causing financial loss to the state through various dealings.
Frank Davies, a member of Ofori-Atta's legal team, expressed frustration over claims of evading justice. He stated that his client is currently receiving treatment in the United States.
Davies questioned why people struggle to understand his client's health issues. On Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, he explained that unexpected health problems can arise suddenly.
He reminded listeners that Ken's health challenges were known before charges were filed against him.
