Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu announced an ultimatum from President John Dramani Mahama. All government appointees must declare their assets by May 6. Failure to do so may result in dismissal.
Kwakye posted on Facebook about the sanctions for those who did not declare by March 31. Appointees who missed the deadline will lose four months' salary. This amount will be donated to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.
President Mahama set a deadline of March 31 for asset declarations. An update from the Auditor General revealed many appointees did not comply. Those appointed before this date face penalties for failing to declare.
Fifty-four appointees have not declared their assets as required. Reports show that nine out of fifty-four ministers and deputies failed to comply. Additionally, eight out of thirty-two presidential staffers also missed the deadline.
Among those yet to declare are Deputy Ministers Alhassan Suhuyini, Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, and John Dumelo. The list includes various presidential staffers and heads of state institutions as well.
