Deputy Agric Minister John Dumelo and 54 other appointees have not declared their assets. This is despite President John Dramani Mahama's directive to do so by March 31.
As of April 17, 2024, reports show that nine out of fifty-five ministers and deputies failed to comply. Additionally, eight out of thirty-two presidential staffers did not declare their assets. Furthermore, thirty-seven out of eighty-four heads of state institutions also ignored the requirement.
According to The Fourth Estate, this means 32% of appointees have not fulfilled their constitutional obligation. Key figures who have yet to declare include Deputy Ministers Ernest Brogya Gyamfi, Alhassan Suhuyini, Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, and John Dumelo.
The list of non-compliant presidential staffers includes Larry Gbevlo-Lartey and Nathan Kofi Boakye. President Mahama warned that those who fail to declare will face severe sanctions, including removal from office.
He emphasized that asset declaration enhances transparency and fights corruption. Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution requires public officials to declare their assets upon taking office.
On February 18, 2025, President Mahama publicly declared his own assets. He stated he takes this matter seriously and expects compliance from all appointees.
Mahama urged all appointees to meet the March 31 deadline for asset declaration. He reiterated that failure to comply would lead to serious consequences.
The list includes appointees appointed between January 15 and March 18 who missed the deadline.
