Revealed – Ken Ofori-Atta opts for a virtual session with OSP

Ken Ofori-Atta's legal team has informed the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) that he cannot report on June 2. They cited health complications as the reason for his absence.

The legal team has communicated this to both the OSP and the Human Rights Court. They submitted medical reports detailing his condition and upcoming surgeries.

Despite this, reports indicate that Ofori-Atta is willing to participate in the investigation virtually. The OSP has not yet updated the public on this situation.

Previously, the OSP stated that Ken Ofori-Atta was expected to report on June 2, 2025. An official account on X confirmed this expectation and thanked users for their comments.

The OSP warned that if he fails to appear, he will be placed back on their wanted list. Ken Ofori-Atta responded by criticizing the OSP after being declared a fugitive.

Reports suggest he filed a lawsuit against the OSP and its head, Kissi Agyebeng, on March 13, 2025. His legal team claims declaring him a fugitive was unfair.

The OSP acknowledged receiving a lawsuit from Ken Ofori-Atta challenging his fugitive status. They also stated they removed his name from their wanted list after he requested it.

The statement noted that he assured them he would attend an interview on a specific date. If he does not show up on June 2, he will be considered a fugitive again.

The OSP plans to issue an Interpol Red Notice if necessary and initiate extradition proceedings. They emphasized their commitment to enforcing the law regarding ongoing corruption investigations involving him.

Ofori-Atta is accused of causing financial loss to the state in several cases. These include issues related to the National Cathedral project and contracts with various government agencies.

During a press conference, the OSP identified him as Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori Atta, age 66. He served as Finance Minister from 2017 until 2024 and left Ghana around January 2, 2025.

On January 24, 2025, the OSP informed him of his suspect status in four cases. He instructed his lawyers to inform them that he was out of jurisdiction for medical reasons.
