Revealed – Mahama had faith in Torkornoo when she was nominated

Edudzi Tamekloe is the CEO of the National Petroleum Authority. He recently spoke about President John Dramani Mahama's support for Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Tamekloe said Mahama advised the NDC minority in parliament not to oppose her appointment. He noted that her approval was unanimous at both committee and plenary levels.

On TV3 Key Points, Tamekloe stated, “President Mahama had faith in Gertrude Torkornoo when she was nominated.” He emphasized that this confidence led to her unanimous approval.

He also mentioned that Justice Torkornoo's suspension was based on received petitions. “President Mahama had no way of knowing how she would act in office,” he added.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has filed a lawsuit at the Supreme Court. She aims to stop the five-member committee investigating her removal.

On May 21, 2025, she requested an injunction to halt all committee proceedings. She seeks to remove justices Pwamang and Adibu-Asiedu from the panel as well.

Additionally, she wants to quash her suspension issued by President Mahama. The court document indicates she seeks an order restraining the six-member committee.

Torkornoo is also asking for a halt on her suspension warrant until a final decision is made. Her legal team at Dame and Partners filed the suit.
