Revealed – Bawumia coordinating efforts to secure bail for Wontumi

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former vice president and 2024 NPP flagbearer, is working to secure bail for Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi.

Divine Agorhom, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NPP, spoke to Citi News. He said that not only Dr. Bawumia but all senior party members are involved. They hope EOCO will relax the bail conditions.

If EOCO does not cooperate, they may consider legal options. If those fail, they will pool resources to help Wontumi.

Chairman Wontumi was arrested by EOCO after visiting the CID headquarters on May 27. He received bail of GH₵50 million with two sureties on May 28. However, his legal team has not yet met all conditions for his release.

Reports indicate he has secured one surety but needs another. Former MP Kennedy Agyapong has offered to be a surety for him.

On May 29, the minority in Parliament protested outside EOCO's headquarters in Accra. They demanded Wontumi's release as he is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling NPP.

Meanwhile, Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai announced that Wontumi is under investigation for fraud and money laundering. He is also being investigated for causing financial loss to the state.

Justice Srem-Sai stated that there is an ongoing international organized crime investigation involving Wontumi. EOCO is collaborating with international law enforcement partners on this case.

The Deputy Attorney General confirmed that asset recovery efforts are underway to secure suspected proceeds of crime related to these investigations.
