Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of Government Communications, announced that President John Dramani Mahama has prohibited lavish birthday parties for his appointees.
This decision aims to promote simplicity and frugality among them. Although this ban is not part of the official code of conduct, the president intends to enforce it.
On TV3 Key Point, Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated, “President Mahama has outlawed parties too.” He clarified that while having a birthday party isn’t illegal, the president will take action against such events. Appointees are discouraged from organizing any lavish celebrations.
President Mahama recently launched a new Code of Conduct and Ethics for political appointees. This initiative aims to improve transparency, accountability, and ethical governance.
During the launch at the Presidency, he said, “This Code represents a bold declaration of standards we must uphold.” He emphasized that it is an enforceable framework for all appointed individuals in his administration.
The code promotes a political culture based on transparency and humility. Key principles include serving with integrity, prioritizing national interests over personal ones, and avoiding misuse of office resources.
Appointees must declare potential conflicts of interest and be accountable for public funds. They should also demonstrate humility and respect towards citizens.
Chief of Staff Julius Debrah warned that there will be no excuses for violations of this code. He stressed that compliance is mandatory and breaches will not be tolerated.
