Richmond Jaba sentenced to 4 years for stabbing

Court Sentences Man for Stabbing Incident

Richmond Jaba, an unemployed man, has been sentenced to four years in prison. The Circuit Court in Accra delivered the sentence on April 23, 2025. This followed a full trial where Jaba pleaded for mercy due to his unemployment.

The court considered the time he spent in custody before sentencing. The incident occurred on September 25, 2022. Jaba stabbed Akwesi Kusi with scissors during a confrontation at a local bar.

Yaw Bonsu, a trader and relative of Kusi, received a distressing call about the attack. He advised that Kusi be taken to the hospital and ensured he got medical attention. Kusi was admitted to the accident ward at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment.

On September 27, Bonsu filed an official complaint with the police. Officers visited the hospital to gather information from Kusi. During their investigation, they learned that Jaba and Kusi had a prior misunderstanding at the bar.

Witnesses had intervened earlier, separating both men and advising them to leave. However, Jaba returned home, grabbed scissors, and confronted Kusi again. He stabbed Kusi beneath the shoulder on his left upper rib.

After his arrest, Jaba admitted to the offense in his caution statement. The court found him guilty of all charges against him. They sentenced him to four years in prison due to the crime's severity and his time served.

Kusi has since been discharged from the hospital and is recovering well. This case highlights the serious consequences of violence and emphasizes conflict resolution without harm.
