The Ministry of Roads and Highways has begun a thorough validation process to determine the government's true debt to road contractors, currently estimated at GH₵40 billion.
Kwame Governs Agbodza, Minister for Roads and Highways, has instructed various departments, including the Ghana Highways Authority and the Department of Urban Roads, to gather data on all outstanding Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs).
During a meeting with contractors, Mr. Agbodza stressed the importance of verifying the debt figures and ensuring collaborative efforts to clear outstanding payments.
He also discussed solutions to sustain road projects, such as uncapping the Road Fund and possibly reintroducing road tolls. The government plans a national dialogue on road funding in the coming weeks.
