Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor wins case against former Chief of Staff over illegal sale of Kumasi Technical University vehicles

In a significant ruling, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor won a legal battle. He took on the former Chief of Staff over the illegal sale of vehicles. These vehicles belonged to Kumasi Technical University.

The case was titled Dafeamekpor Rockson-Nelson v Attorney General (Suit No: GJ/1357/2021). It was heard by General Jurisdiction 10 of the High Court. His Lordship John Eugene Nyante Nyadu presided over the case.

The court ruled in favor of Dafeamekpor. It granted all reliefs he sought in his Writ of Summons and Statement of Claim. The court ordered the Vice-Chancellor to value two unserviceable vehicles after they are retrieved.

These vehicles were not assessed before being auctioned. Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor must get approval for disposing of nine unserviceable vehicles. This approval must come first from the Minister of Finance and then from the Minister of Education, with input from the university's council.

The court also stated that previous buyers should have first option to repurchase any vehicle upon resale. It awarded GHC 30,000 in costs to Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor against the defendant.

This ruling resolves issues surrounding the illegal sale of university vehicles. It emphasizes following proper protocols for public asset disposal.
