Mrs. Rose Hamilton has withdrawn from the Ashanti Regional Council of State election re-run, citing concerns over the violent disruptions that marred the initial voting on February 11, 2025.
In a statement on February 16, her campaign team emphasized that the decision was made after careful reflection, stressing that no political position is worth endangering lives or destabilizing democracy.
She reaffirmed her commitment to peace and unity in Ashanti and Ghana.
Her withdrawal follows disruptions allegedly linked to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), which led to the destruction of ballot papers.
While police investigations are ongoing, no arrests have been made.
Hamilton thanked her supporters and urged the Electoral Commission and security agencies to ensure a free and fair election as the re-run proceeds today with the remaining candidates.
