Russia alleges US expanding biological research in Ghana

Russia has accused the United States of escalating biological research activities in Africa, including Ghana and Djibouti, where studies on disease outbreaks and pathogen sequencing are reportedly underway.

A DW Africa report revealed the US has established a military medical center in Kenya and a joint medical research lab in Nigeria, staffed by specialists from the US Department of Defence.

Russian officials, including Alexey Shevtsov, claim these projects may have ulterior motives, alleging the development of biological weapons targeting specific ethnic groups.

These claims emerge against the backdrop of strained US-Russia relations following the Ukraine war, fueling global concerns about geopolitical rivalry extending into Africa.
