Rwanda to host 2025 YAWC Global Convocation

The 2025 Annual Global Convocation of the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) will be in Kigali, Rwanda. It will run from Sunday, October 26 to Thursday, October 30. This was confirmed in a statement by Daniel Osei Tuffuor, the Founder and Executive Chairperson of YAWC.

This year's theme is “EmpowerHer: Shaping the Digital Economy Through Women’s Leadership.”

YAWC is a non-profit organization. It connects young women of African descent in Africa and the diaspora. The goal is to empower them as change-makers for leadership and development.

The Network focuses on mobilizing women at the grassroots level. They promote leadership through advocacy, training, and projects.

Since its start in 2016, YAWC has impacted thousands of young women. They provide skills and training to help these women become agents of change. Mr. Tuffuor expressed hope for even greater impact this year.

Mr. Tuffuor shared his excitement about hosting the event in Kigali. He praised Rwanda's progress in gender equality and Pan-Africanism. He believes Kigali is an ideal location for this year's convocation.

Last year’s event in Abuja attracted hundreds of participants from various countries. This year, YAWC aims for over 2,000 attendees.

Participants will come from diverse sectors such as banking, engineering, politics, arts, entrepreneurship, tech, and academia.

The event will create a platform for sustainable empowerment for all African women and girls. It will consider the diverse cultures and histories across Africa and its diaspora.

Renowned women leaders from Africa, Europe, America, and Asia will participate. Business leaders and officials from UN Women and the African Union Commission will also lead discussions.

Side events include a cultural night, fun trip, award ceremony, gala dinner, and more. Other organizations can host side events or pre-conference activities too.

The YAWC convocation welcomes young women from Africa and the diaspora who want to empower themselves. The platform encourages knowledge sharing and intellectual discourse among participants.

It fosters a strong sense of belonging that inspires participants to become changemakers in their communities.
