S/R: Pupils of Yapei Presby Primary School lie on bare floor to study

Students at Yapei Presby Primary School in the Central Gonja District study on bare floors. They lie on their bellies or sit on the ground to write and learn. The school has two blocks, A and B, with 340 and 319 students, respectively.

A recent visit by Channel One News showed the school's poor condition. The cement floors are worn out, and doors and windows are damaged. John Fuseini, the PTA and SMC chairman, said they have struggled with this issue for a long time. Some residents have helped, but the situation is now unbearable.

Fuseini noted that the school lacks teachers and furniture. This shortage affects teaching and learning activities. "Our school needs renovation," he said. "Last three years, we did our best as PTA, but it wasn't enough."

Abdulai Abdul Mumin, Senior Prefect of Yapei Presby Primary, is asking for help from the government. He wants support for furniture and a kindergarten block. "We plead with the Member of Parliament and District Assembly to assist us," he said.

Iddi Kamil, Assembly member for Yapei Electoral Area, highlighted another issue. The teachers' bungalows are unsafe and considered a death trap. As a result, teachers rent homes far from school. This delays their arrival each day.

"The teachers do not want to stay in," Kamil explained. "They come to school very late." He called on the government and organizations to provide assistance.
