S/R: St. Anne Catholic Hospital laments poor Maternity Ward conditions

The maternity ward at St. Anne Catholic Hospital needs urgent upgrades. It is located in the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region. Currently, the ward has only two outdated delivery beds. This makes it hard to meet the needs of local mothers and babies.

Despite being upgraded to a regional hospital, the maternity ward lacks modern equipment. It serves as both a labor and delivery unit but is poorly equipped. Essential tools for safe deliveries and neonatal care are missing.

Felicia Saabome, the In-Charge of the Maternity Ward, spoke to Channel One News. She expressed concern about daily challenges faced by midwives. They must care for women in labor with just two old delivery beds and limited supplies.

Saabome mentioned that adjustable beds and baby warmers are needed urgently. She called on the government and stakeholders for help in improving facilities.

Dr. Nelson Agboadoh, Medical Director at St. Anne Hospital, shared his worries too. He noted issues with inconsistent electricity supply affecting hospital operations. The facility shares one transformer with the entire community, leading to frequent overloads.

Dr. Agboadoh also highlighted high maintenance costs for hospital equipment due to power fluctuations. These issues continue to impact service delivery at the hospital.
