James Klutse-Avedzi, Director-General of the SEC, has made serious accusations. He claims former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame obstructed efforts to hold corrupt officials accountable.
Klutse-Avedzi spoke on Good Afternoon Ghana with Kwasi Afriyie on Metro TV. He shared his frustrations from his time as Chairman of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
He stated, “For eight years as PAC Chairman, I recommended sanctions against individuals.” However, he said the then Attorney-General did not take action.
Despite PAC uncovering many cases of financial misconduct, no recommendations were acted upon. This included both prosecution and administrative sanctions.
His comments shocked many and raised concerns about Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts. The former PAC chair emphasized that rigorous committee work revealed several financial infractions. Yet, prosecution was consistently blocked at the executive level.
