SEND Ghana calls for stronger measures against illegal mining

The "Send Ghana" initiative has urged the government to implement more robust strategies to combat illegal mining activities that are severely affecting the environment and local communities. The organization emphasizes that the detrimental effects of such mining practices extend beyond economic loss, leading to significant environmental degradation, including deforestation and water pollution. These actions threaten not only natural resources but also the health and livelihoods of residents in mining areas.

During a recent press conference, Send Ghana highlighted the need for stricter regulations and enhanced enforcement mechanisms to curb these illegal operations. They called on authorities to engage with stakeholders—including community members, civil society organizations, and law enforcement—to develop comprehensive solutions that address the root causes of illegal mining. Additionally, they stressed the importance of promoting sustainable mining practices that prioritize environmental integrity while supporting local economies. The group’s appeal underscores an urgent call for collaborative action to safeguard both Ghana’s natural resources and its communities from the adverse impacts of unregulated mining activities.
