Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), has made serious allegations. He claims an opposition political party received GHS 8.3 million of the money he is accused of stealing.
In a letter from EOCO custody, Adu-Boahene stated that this money was for election results collation. He assured that he and his wife, Angela, would never steal public funds. He questioned how one could steal public funds without being flagged by the Auditor-General.
Adu-Boahene emphasized their contentment with their modest blessings. He claimed part of the GHS 49 million was used to fund elections in 2020 and 2024.
He alleged that $500,000 was spent on communications equipment for an opposition party. Additionally, he mentioned GHS 7,285,000 was used for "elections special operations" in 2020. This covered logistics and allowances for those elections.
For the upcoming December 2024 elections, GHS 6,764,000 was allocated for logistics and allowances. These funds were intended to ensure national stability and peaceful polling.
Currently, Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng face multiple charges from the state. They are charged with stealing, defrauding by false pretenses, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
The Attorney General filed 11 charges against them at the High Court in Accra. They are accused of stealing state funds totaling GHS 49 million.
An Accra High Court has remanded Adu-Boahene while witness statements are prepared. He will remain in custody at EOCO for seven working days as ordered by the court.
