Dr. Arthur Kennedy, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has made a claim. He says former President Akufo-Addo has withdrawn support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. This withdrawal concerns Bawumia's potential presidential run in 2028.
Kennedy stated that his information is accurate. However, he prefers to let Akufo-Addo speak for himself when ready.
During an interview on TV3, Alferd Ocansey asked if Akufo-Addo no longer supports Bawumia. Kennedy confirmed this and said, “Yes, I am.” He added that if he is incorrect, others can clarify as events unfold.
Kennedy's comments follow Bawumia's recent remarks about the previous government’s failures. Many see these comments as throwing his former boss under the bus.
Bawumia cited several reasons for the NPP's defeat in the 2024 elections. He mentioned hardship in the country and arrogance from his government as key issues. Other factors included the e-levy and debt restructuring program.
Speaking to party members in Takoradi on April 26, Bawumia highlighted major complaints from voters. These included high living costs and lack of ministerial reshuffles over eight years.
He noted that despite party advice against certain policies, they were ignored. For example, he mentioned public dissatisfaction with the e-levy and debt restructuring efforts.
Bawumia also criticized spending $58 million on the National Cathedral project. He believes this expenditure contributed to their electoral defeat.
He pointed out that fuel prices rose just three days before election day, angering voters further. Bawumia expressed relief that religious or tribal factors did not play a role in their loss.
In summary, Dr. Arthur Kennedy claims Akufo-Addo has stopped supporting Bawumia for 2028. Meanwhile, Bawumia reflects on past mistakes leading to their electoral defeat.
