SHS 2 student drowns in Dam at Bibiani

A 19-year-old Senior High School student, Elisha Akanlawen, tragically drowned in the Amponsah Dam at Bibiani Zongo, Western North Region, during an afternoon swim with friends.

Eyewitnesses say Elisha, who was inexperienced in swimming, struggled in the deep waters but could not be rescued in time.

Police and community leaders later performed traditional rituals to retrieve his body, which has been sent to the Bibiani Government Hospital mortuary for further investigations.

Assembly Member Mohammed Abdallah lamented that similar incidents have occurred at the dam and renewed calls for authorities to fence the area to prevent future tragedies.
