Senior high schools in the Greater Accra Region are facing a financial crisis after their accounts with the Bank of Ghana were reportedly emptied, leaving them unable to purchase supplies or feed students.
The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) confirmed the issue, with President Rev. Fr. Stephen Owusu Sekyere revealing that school accounts are in red.
Efforts to verify with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Finance confirmed the depletion.
This crisis follows a GHS200 million emergency fund released in January to address food shortages.
However, schools cannot pay suppliers as cheques are bouncing due to insufficient funds.
CHASS is calling on the GES and the Bank of Ghana to urgently restore the missing funds.
