President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to release food reserves stored in warehouses to address the ongoing feeding crisis in second-cycle schools.
Speaking at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service in Accra, the President described the situation as an “emergency” and emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring students can continue their education uninterrupted.
The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) recently raised alarm over depleted food stocks, urging parents to supplement school-provided meals with items like gari, shito, and sugar.
In response, President Mahama directed the Chief of Staff and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to allocate food stored in warehouses in Tema, originally intended for drought emergencies, to the affected schools.
This measure aims to provide immediate relief while the government works on long-term solutions.
