The Ghana Education Service has authorized a search of students' luggage. This search revealed that some Senior High School students possess dangerous weapons and unauthorized items.
The investigation followed a shooting incident in class. A student was shot by another student using a locally made pistol.
Rev. Father Stephen Owusu Sekyere, head of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools, reported findings. "We found pinch bars, pliers, big scissors, and daggers in their bags," he said.
He expressed gratitude to the GES for allowing the searches. Previously, such actions faced criticism for infringing on students' rights.
CHASS is urging parents to monitor what their children bring to school.
Suzzy Pinamang, a second-year student at Adventist SHS, was shot in class. She now suffers from blindness in both eyes due to her injuries.
Rev. Father Owusu Sekyere stated that punitive measures will be enforced against students with weapons. Some students are currently facing their school's Disciplinary Committees.
CHASS is committed to strictly implementing the Code of Conduct for schools.
Doctors at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital recommend surgery for Suzzy's eye injuries. Her situation led to the GES conducting thorough searches in senior high schools across Ghana.
