Ghanaians will no longer face chaos during SIM card re-registration, Minister Sam George assured.
In his first quarterly briefing since taking office, he promised a smoother process. The upcoming registration will avoid the confusion seen in previous efforts.
“I pledge that Ghanaians won’t have to queue for long hours,” he said on April 9 in Accra.
The new process will be human-centered and technology-driven. It is vital for our national security.
This re-registration is part of a larger plan. It includes introducing a Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) to enhance security and reduce digital fraud.
The Ministry will soon start public education about this initiative. “We will begin sensitization and education for the upcoming SIM Registration,” he stated.
His comments may bring relief to many mobile users. In recent years, they faced repeated deadlines and technical issues under the previous administration.
While he did not name anyone, his message was clear: “This Ministry is being reset.”
He emphasized service delivery, digital inclusion, and protecting public trust as priorities.
The new SIM registration supports Ghana’s digital transformation agenda. It aims to strengthen cybersecurity and improve national identification systems.
“Digital security and inclusion go hand-in-hand,” he noted. “If we cannot protect digital identities, we cannot secure the economy.”
The Minister's commitment to streamline re-registration is part of broader reforms. These include updating laws, improving telecom services, and digitizing government services.
He concluded with an inspiring message: “Ghana’s digital future is being built today with purpose.” He called for strategic partnerships and collaboration with the people at the center of this effort.
