Akosua Manu, a former NPP parliamentary candidate in Adentan, has condemned Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi. She criticized his threat to physically assault traders on pavements. Manu described the Mayor's actions as chaotic and lawless.
On Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily, she called for the Mayor's dismissal. She stated that his comments are unfit for any public official. Such behavior should not be tolerated in a democracy.
Manu expressed disbelief that a leader would threaten physical violence. She was shocked when the Mayor reiterated his stance. In her opinion, he should be removed from office immediately.
She argued that endorsing violence undermines democratic governance. It sends a dangerous message to other leaders across the country. "He should have been the shortest-serving appointee," she said.
Manu insisted that such positions are indefensible in a government promoting law and nonviolence. She believes if it were Nana Akufo Addo’s government, the Mayor would have been replaced by now.
Allowing the Mayor's actions to go unchecked could inspire chaos among city leaders. This could lead to disorder and weaken civil enforcement standards nationwide. "He is creating an avenue for chaos," she warned.
Manu cautioned that if this behavior continues, other mayors might follow suit. She emphasized that enforcement must be civil and humane: "Nobody should beat anyone."
