Sack asset declaration defaulters – Governance analyst to Mahama

Nicholas Gborse, a governance expert from the Volta Region, has made a call. He wants President John Dramani Mahama to dismiss appointees who haven't declared their assets on time.

Gborse believes that failing to comply shows disrespect for the President's authority. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency on May 4, he expressed surprise at this non-compliance. He questioned if it was due to ignorance or a deliberate refusal to obey.

He thinks this behavior suggests an attempt to hide something important. “The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has many capable individuals,” he stated. “Those unwilling to follow the President should be replaced.”

Gborse suggested that President Mahama give these appointees two to three weeks to comply. If they refuse again, he believes they should be dismissed immediately. He warned that ongoing disobedience could be used against the party in upcoming elections.

He called for quick action from the party to avoid electoral issues. Gborse emphasized that accountability is crucial for transparency in government appointments. The President must take a strong stance against disobedient appointees.

“The directive for asset declaration was issued in January,” he noted. The deadline was set for the end of March, and all appointees should have complied by then.

He stressed that not holding non-compliant officials accountable could harm the party’s reputation. Appointees need to act quickly and show commitment to good governance.

Gborse concluded with a clear message: “President Mahama should give a final ultimatum.” If appointees fail again, they should be replaced with those who will obey his directives.

Meanwhile, reports indicate several government appointees have not complied with this directive. This includes Nathan Kofi Boakye, Seth Emmanuel Terkper, Naana Yaa Jantuah, and Charles Kipo among others.
