The Centre for Environmental Management and Sustainable Energy (CEMSE) has made a request. They urge the new Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Edmond Kombat, to reduce staff numbers. This step is part of efforts to improve the refinery’s financial health.
CEMSE notes that TOR has faced ongoing operational and financial issues. They believe cutting down on staff is essential for recovery. After Kombat's promotion from Deputy Managing Director, CEMSE's Executive Director, Benjamin Nsiah, spoke out.
Nsiah called for immediate action, starting with layoffs. He stated, “Kombat must reflect on the situation at TOR.” He emphasized that there are too many redundant employees affecting efficiency.
Nsiah also encouraged Kombat to lead a rebranding initiative. He said this would help rebuild public trust in TOR. “Most news about the refinery is negative,” he pointed out.
He believes it’s crucial to present TOR as a world-class facility. This rebranding effort could attract investments needed for upgrades and new equipment. Nsiah stressed that improving infrastructure is vital for boosting operations at the refinery.
