Sack yourself or sit up – DCE warns lazy workers

Mr. Andrews Kojo Doodo is the new District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam. He has warned workers at the District Assembly about absenteeism.

He threatened to stop salaries for employees who do not show up. Mr. Doodo emphasized that government resources should not be wasted on unproductive staff. “One cannot receive salaries and sit idle without work,” he stated.

After taking office, he made it clear that absenteeism would not be tolerated. Workers who fail to report regularly should prepare for transfer or resign voluntarily.

“I will instruct my Coordinating Director to consult the Human Resource officer,” he said. He plans to place an embargo on salaries of absent workers and return funds to the government.

This measure aims to motivate staff and improve performance in the Assembly. Mr. Doodo also pledged to work with Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Member of Parliament, on development projects.

He noted that the district had been neglected in infrastructure and social projects under the previous administration. Health, education, and agriculture are his top priorities.

He promised to revamp local farming, calling it vital for Ghana’s economy. Regarding education, he expressed concern over poor student performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Mr. Doodo vowed to collaborate with educational leaders to improve academic standards. During an open forum, some Assembly staff shared their concerns about challenges faced under the previous DCE.

They requested a staff bus for easier commuting as many struggle with transportation issues. They also called for end-of-year packages since they have gone without incentives in recent years.
