Salesman Faces Criminal Prosecution For Assaulting Wife

Dansoman Circuit Court Update

Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit presided over a case at the Dansoman Circuit Court. A 41-year-old salesman, whose name is withheld, is accused of assaulting his wife. This incident followed a disagreement about their children's schooling and living arrangements.

The salesman faces charges for causing unlawful harm. This is contrary to Section 69 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Inspector Esther Mensah presented facts in court. The couple lives with their children in Ablekuma Fanmilk, Accra. On March 24, 2025, an argument broke out regarding their children's welfare.

The complainant suggested enrolling the children in school. The accused proposed that she and the children move in with his mother-in-law. He believed this would help care for the children during her working hours.

The disagreement escalated when she rejected his proposal. The accused allegedly slapped her and held her by the neck. He then pushed her to the ground and beat her in front of their children.

Afterward, the complainant reported the incident to police. She received a medical form for examination. The accused was arrested and charged with causing unlawful harm.

Her Honour granted bail set at GH¢10,000 with two sureties. Both sureties must be justified before release. The accused must also deposit his Ghana Card with the court registry.

He is required to report to police every two weeks until further notice. The judge advised both parties to consider an out-of-court settlement since they remain a couple.

The case has been adjourned until July 16, 2025.
