Sam George: MTN to build second AI lab in Ghana

Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has made an important announcement.

Telecommunications giant MTN will establish its second artificial intelligence (AI) lab in Africa. Ghana has been chosen as the location for this new facility.

In an interview on The Point of View on Channel One TV, Sam George shared details about this development. He noted that MTN currently operates only one AI lab in South Africa.

The decision to open a second lab in Ghana highlights the country's growing role in AI research and innovation. Sam George described the upcoming AI lab as a "center of excellence."

This center is expected to drive advancements in AI technology, machine learning, and digital transformation. The initiative supports Ghana’s goal to become a leading hub for AI development in Africa.

The establishment of the AI lab will encourage collaboration among industry experts, researchers, and tech innovators. This will further strengthen Ghana’s digital ecosystem.

Sam George told host Bernard Avle, “MTN is building its second AI lab in the whole of Africa.” He added that there is currently only one lab in South Africa. “They are bringing the second one into Ghana. It’s going to be a centre of excellence.”
