Sam George alleges revenue diversion at NITA

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has made serious accusations. He claims the former Akufo-Addo administration set up a contract that diverts revenue from the National Information Technology Agency (NITA).

He stated that even though NITA's infrastructure is used for services, the revenue goes to a private firm. This leaves NITA with only 25 Ghana Cedis in its account.

On Monday, March 24th, Sam George spoke to journalists about this alarming issue. He highlighted NITA's financial struggles and said it owes GHȼ813,486,505.89.

George revealed that NITA is bound by a contract with a third-party vendor. He has summoned this vendor for questioning.

He expressed disbelief at how all of NITA’s revenue is redirected. “I do not understand how this arrangement works,” he said. The previous administration signed a contract benefiting the third party instead of NITA.

The Minister noted that payments meant for NITA are going to the private entity instead. “I refused to sign off on almost four million Ghana Cedis intended for them,” he explained.

He has referred this matter to the Attorney General for further investigation. Mr. George will not approve any more payments until he understands why NITA is losing its revenue.

“I want clarity on why a private company profits while NITA suffers,” he stated firmly. He described this situation as the "true definition of state capture."

The Minister promised to expose alleged financial mismanagement within his ministry. He plans to provide a detailed report to Parliament soon, saying it reflects significant issues within the ministry.
