Sam George demands urgent fix to poor network in Volta

Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has taken action. He ordered the National Communications Authority (NCA) and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) to improve mobile network services in Ghana. This is especially important in the Volta Region.

The directive came after a resident complained about poor mobile service. Many Ghanaians struggle to access reliable network services. Hon. George expressed concern over these issues. He stated that quality digital connectivity is a basic right for all Ghanaians.

“Access to reliable mobile connectivity is a right, not a privilege,” he said. The Minister emphasized the need for decisive action. He plans to meet with CEOs of network operators soon to demand accountability and timelines for improvements.

As an immediate step, the Minister instructed NCA and GIFEC to hold a meeting with all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs). They will address ongoing service quality issues, particularly in regions like Volta that suffer from poor coverage.

Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, Director-General of the NCA, acknowledged these challenges. He assured the public that improving service delivery in underserved areas is a priority. The Authority will increase monitoring to ensure compliance with licensing obligations.

“Enforcement actions will be taken if necessary,” Rev. Fianko promised.

This renewed effort by the Ministry shows a stronger regulatory approach. It aims to promote equity in digital access and ensure no one is left behind in Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
