Sam George sends evidence to Attorney General over SIM registration ‘hoax’ under NPP

Communication Minister Sam Nartey George has called the previous SIM card registration a “sham” and a “hoax.” He believes it misled millions of Ghanaians and wasted significant funds.

During an interview on Joy News’ PM Express, he shared that he submitted evidence to the Attorney General. He plans to send more as investigations continue.

“It is not re-registration. It is a registration,” he stated firmly.

He explained that true re-registration would require an actual prior registration. Instead, there was only deception, which he described as an unfortunate episode in Ghana's history.

George accused the former leadership of misleading the public. He claimed they violated important data protection and security protocols.

“It was irresponsible public governance,” he said. “Ghanaians were told they were registered, but no registration occurred.”

He stressed that the consequences of this deception are serious.

“We spent resources—both private and public,” he noted. “Mobile network operators likely spent over ¢25 million.”

When asked about accountability, George said it’s still early in the process. However, he assured that justice is being pursued.

“The Attorney General must hold everyone accountable for their actions,” he added.

He mentioned that they have already sent information to the Attorney General and are gathering more evidence.

George emphasized his commitment to future generations in his role.

“I know I won’t be here forever, and I will be held accountable,” he said.

He criticized those behind the previous registration campaign for their reckless actions.

“Do these people love this country?” he questioned.

George also doubted their understanding of what it means to serve as a Minister of State.

“Do they grasp the weight of responsibility in high office?” he asked.

For him, the SIM registration saga was both a policy failure and a betrayal of public trust.

“I cannot imagine acting so recklessly with this responsibility today,” he stated.

He pointed out that the prior administration misled citizens for two years while mishandling their data protection laws.

In conclusion, George insisted that respect for Ghanaians is essential.
