Sammy Gyamfi Controversy Resolved by President Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama has addressed the controversy involving Sammy Gyamfi. This followed public outrage over a video showing Gyamfi allegedly giving dollar bills to Evangelist Nana Agradaa.
In an interview with a radio station in Accra, spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu shared details. The President personally contacted Gyamfi for clarification on the incident. He accepted Gyamfi's apology and advised him to be more careful.
The President stressed that public officials should exercise discretion. He believes preventive measures are better than punitive actions. Kwakye Ofosu noted that all government officials must avoid similar situations in the future.
The controversy began when a viral video showed Gyamfi presenting what looked like US dollars to Nana Agradaa. This act drew sharp criticism from the Minority in Parliament, who called it “inappropriate.” They demanded immediate suspension for Sammy Gyamfi.
In response, Nana Agradaa defended Gyamfi on Instagram Live. She expressed concern that this gesture could harm his political career. Some political observers agreed, calling for a balanced approach to the situation.
Kwakye Ofosu stated that the President considered all perspectives on this issue. He believes the steps taken so far are sufficient. The President has asked for an end to the controversy and supports Gyamfi continuing his work.
Gyamfi assured both the President and Chief of Staff that such incidents would not recur. Kwakye Ofosu confirmed these assurances were made during their discussions.
While there is no specific legal violation regarding public conduct here, the Presidency acknowledges public concerns. They view Gyamfi's apology and caution as adequate disciplinary responses.
Kwakye Ofosu explained that there is a code of conduct for public officials. It includes progressive discipline measures starting with a public apology. Caution is also part of this process, aimed at deterring future violations.
With the President’s comments now public, it seems the matter is resolved. Sammy Gyamfi can continue his duties without further sanctions. However, the call for caution emphasizes expectations for responsible behavior among government officials.
