A video showed Mr. Gyamfi giving dollars to her at an event. This sparked criticism from the public and political supporters. Many expressed disappointment over his association with her.
In a Facebook post on May 11, Mr. Gyamfi called the donation a “private act of kindness.” He did not expect it to become public. He described the situation as “unfortunate and regrettable.” He apologized to those offended by his actions.
“I sincerely thought I was doing this in private,” he wrote. “To all comrades hurt by this, I am sincerely sorry.” He also clarified that his gesture was not politically motivated. It aligned with his personal values of helping others.
