Sammy Gyamfi controversy is a lesson for all public servants – Dafeamekpor

Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor is the Majority Chief Whip and MP for South Dayi. He recently spoke about public officials learning from a controversy involving Sammy Gyamfi and Nana Agradaa.

On May 17, Dafeamekpor appeared on TV3’s Key Points. He discussed how Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, faced backlash. This followed a video showing him giving dollar bills to Nana Agradaa at an event.

The video sparked public outrage. It raised concerns about the judgment of public officials. Dafeamekpor cautioned that public officers must be careful in their actions.

He said, “It is a learning curve for all of us.” He emphasized that they are still young in national politics. This incident should serve as a guide for everyone involved.

Dafeamekpor urged members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be mindful of their conduct. He advised them to pay attention to optics in public situations.

He suggested that donations should be discreetly wrapped or placed in envelopes. This would help avoid misunderstandings and negative perceptions.

Regarding President John Mahama's decision to pardon Gyamfi, Dafeamekpor expressed gratitude. He commended the President for his action.

He stated, “I don’t know how we would feel if he were suspended or dismissed.”
